Low back pain is pain felt on the backside of your body located anywhere between your last rip and the lower skin crease made by your glute muscles lasting more than 24 hours. It can occur with or without pain radiating to one of your legs. As it stands now, low back pain is a massive problem in the world. It is currently the number one cause of pain and disability globally and affects 80-90% of the population at one point in their lives. About 10% of the population is suffering from low back pain right now, and, unfortunately, between 20-40% will suffer a recurrence once they recover (Lancet LBP 2018 series).
Physical Therapy can first help patients suffering from low back pain by identifying and educating patients on red flag symptoms. Low back pain becomes a lot less scary when you know what the serious signs and symptoms are. Next, we can help patients zoom out and find some of the possible contributing factors to their experience. It's easy and tempting to blame the pain on things like bad posture, weakness, or lifting technique, but these causes are often red herrings that take too narrow a view of what's going on in a patient's life.
At Nevada Physical Therapy, we work with you to develop an individualized plan to get back to doing what you want to do and avoid the shortcuts and blame game. Instead of focusing on the past, we figure out what you can do right now and then take steps forward toward what you want to do. Initially, this means finding movements that you can tolerate and do at home. Sometimes, low back pain is debilitating, and it takes guidance to find ways to move and sleep that don't cause more aggravation. Then, as the pain starts to calm down, it means pushing into it, or nudging it, as we like to say, with activities you may have been avoiding. It is easier to push when you feel confident that you are not doing damage. The education and tools you leave with can be used again in the future to reassure yourself and help guide decision-making in case you have a recurrence.

Nick was so attentive to my needs and he structured his schedule to fit mine. My therapy was focused on my strengths and weaknesses; therefore, my recovery time was much shorter than expected. I highly recommend Nevada Physical Therapy for any lingering pain you may be experiencing.

The best Physical Therapy place I have ever visited. Rare to see an emphasis on finding the best method to improve injury instead of giving everyone the same plan. But the best part about this place is it's approach to well being during and after PT.

I was referred to Brian Fearnley by someone with significant credibility. I consider working with Brian a huge stroke of luck. This specific 'PT' is increasing my recovery potential a hundred fold. Brian knows his stuff. He is well versed in PT. He has athletic history at UNR and is active in our local community. He is clearly in this profession to help people recover and get under their own power.

As a professional athlete, injuries can make or break a career. Luckily, in my case, I had Nevada Physical Therapy on my side. Not only did they physically help me recover from a meniscus surgery, but they provided the best emotional support you could ask for in such a difficult time.
